Darius Couch graduated from the West Point Military Academy in 1846 and experienced action during the Mexican-American War. He also participated in the Seminole Wars of 1849 and 1850. During the American Civil War, Couch saw action during the Battle of the Seven Pines, Peninsula Campaign, Battle of Fredericksburg, Battle of Chancellorsville, and the Battle of Gettysburg. He was awarded The Union League of Philadelphia Silver Medal in 1864. After the Civil War, Couch attempted ran unsuccessfully as a democratic candidate for governor of Massachusetts. He joined the Aztec Club of 1847, and the Sons of the American Revolution. |
