The 119th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was a regiment that served in the American Civil War. The regiment was organized for three years service with men from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in August of 1862. In October 1862, the 119th PVI moved to Washington to serve for te Defenses of Washington before ordered to fatigue duty constructing forts. Later in 1862, the 119th PVI served as part of the Army of the Potomac and was present at many of the major battles in the eastern theatre. They partook in various conflicts like the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Battle of the Wilderness, and the Siege of Petersburg. The regiment was mustered out on June 19, 1865. The service of this regiment earned them commemoration on two monuments at Gettysburg. |
