The 1st Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers were comprised of Pennsylvania militia men and fought during the Mexican-American War under General Winfield Scott. The regiment was mustered in during December 1846, fought for the duration of the war, and was mustered out in August 1848. The regiment saw action during the Siege of Veracruz, the Battle of Cerro Gordo, and the defense of Puebla, among others. The 1st Pennsylvania were led by Colonel Francis M.
