John Barry is mentioned in many of Thomas Hazzard's letters to his brother Joseph Hazzard that he wrote during the American Civil War. Given that Anna Hazzard, the wife of Joseph Hazzard, has the maiden name Barry and that her daughter listed John as "uncle" on the back of his cabinet card, he is most likely the brother of Anna Hazzard. That would make John the brother in law of Joseph Hazzard. In his letters, Thomas frequently refers to him as "John Barrey," but our record show "Barry" was probably the correct spelling. |
