Messchert, Matthew Huizinga |

Banks, N. P. Boker, George H. Livermore, George |
Summary |
The text of the first six pages was taken from George Livermore's "An Historical Research Respecting the Opinions of the Founders of the Republic on Negroes as Slaves, as Citizens, and As Soldiers," Boston, 1862. The remaining pages revealed the transformation of Northern thinking regarding the military potential of the free Negro and the slave, and the eagerness to create a wholesome atmosphere for the recruiting of black regiments in Philadelphia. The Banks and Boker items were printed on the inside cover. |
