The Battle of Ball's Bluff took place on October 21, 1861 in Loudoun County, Virginia as part of the American Civil War. This early battle resulted in Union defeat. The Battle of Ball's Bluff is remembered largely due to the death of Senator and Colonel Edward Dickinson Baker. This man was the general in charge of the raising of the 71st Pennsylvania California Regiment and was the only sitting member of the United States Congress to die in the American Civil War. |
