Abraham Lincoln was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States and led the United States through the American Civil War. In doing so, he abolished slavery, preserved the Union, and upheld the United States Constitution. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth and died on April 15, 1865. He was awarded the first Union League of Philadelphia Gold Medal in 1863. |
