John B. Floyd was the Governor of Virginia as well as the Secretary of War under President Buchanan. Floyd is most known for being the general who lost the Battle of Fort Donelson for the Confederacy. The loss allowed for the Union to take control of the Cumberland River, which would be important for the Union's later invasion of the South. |
