Notes |
While enlisted in the Union Army during the American Civil War, Birch fought in the Battles of Second Bull Run, Petersburg, Wilderness, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Mine Run, and Five Forks. In 2006, Glen Ruzicka noted that James Birch was Carlton Birch's uncle. Although no firm genealogical evidence was found to support this claim (in research completed in Summer 2018), on item 1805.025.11, there is a note that states the miniature painting of James was donated by his brother, George R. Birch. Carlton writes to George, his "Uncle George," which would make James his uncle as well. |
