Title |
Letter from Thomas D. Hazzard to Joseph H. Hazzard |
Scope & Content |
Thomas Davis Hazzard writes to his brother from his stay at the Chestnut Hill Hospital where he is recovering from an injury he received at the Battle of Gettysburg. Hazzard tries to surprise his brother by saying that he made a prolonged trip to the city to attend to his sick wife. He then adds that she is not yet his wife, but he intends on marrying Nellie, a young woman from Savannah, Georgia who he has been keeping company with for five years. The reason he referred to Nellie as his wife was to excuse his extended absence from the hospital; however, Hazzard was still placed under arrest for this disobedience. |
